Patchwork Sampler

Make quilts. Use fabric. Have fun.

Just Like Riding a Bike

It has been YEARS since I’ve paper pieced anything—it is way too fiddly and one of my least favorite techniques.  I wouldn’t dream of paper piecing a whole quilt but when Jacqi who owns Keep Me In Stitches Quilt Shop issued a staff challenge to make a pig block, I was in.

It took a few minutes to locate my Add-A-Quarter ruler and initially I forgot I needed an index card to fold back the seam lines, but once I had those two items at hand, it was a straight forward process and only took an hour or so to piece my block.  You can’t tell from the picture, but the background has about 15 pieces so it was more involved than it looks.

This block is now at the shop ready to be quilted, embellished and turned into a pillow.  I was happy to reacquaint myself with the technique but it still seems a whole lot easier to simply applique a pig onto a background fabric.  It will be fun to see the finished Piggy Pillow Parade on display at the shop.
