Here we are, the beginning of June and time to set One Monthly Goal. Last month I did not meet my goal so hesitated to set a new one. It’s too easy to do nothing without a plan, though. This has been an unproductive year for me as far as sewing. With travel, family events and other commitments, quilting has really taken a back seat. It’s time to get back into though. So many quilts, too little time!
In May I spent quite a bit of time going through UFO’s, destashing and organizing fabric, books and notions. It’s been a huge undertaking and I’m nowhere close to finishing. Thirty years of quilting has produced a stash the size of Texas. There is no way I’ll ever be able to use it all in my lifetime. Unfortunately, I still LOVE fabric and my heart skips a beat when I see a beautiful new print. I’m trying to be more conscientious about using more than I purchase each month. The past few months have been the opposite. We’ve traveled a bit, which means new quilt shops and new fabric but less time to sew.
Though not actually sewing, I HAVE been reading a lot about quilting–books, magazines and patterns and am finally excited about getting back in my sewing room. I’ve spent a lot of time on EQ8, designing new scrap quilts and pulling fabric to make them. It’s time to put plans into action!
During the UFO excavation I found a number of patriotic and summer projects that would be nice to display this summer. I’ve selected two of them to finish for June’s One Monthly Goal. The first one was a block of the month from many years ago. When we hosted blocks of the month at the shop, typically I completed the blocks each month for display but rarely finished the quilts. Once one BOM was finished, another would start before the first was completed. I still like this one and think it would look nice on the wall in my family room during the summer. I just have to quilt and bind it to finish so it should be a fairly quick finish.
This second quilt needs to have the applique machine stitched and then quilting and binding. I think this was a Pat Sloan pattern but I’ll to do a little more research to find out for sure.
One Monthly Goal (OMG) is hosted by Patty at Elm Street Quilts. It is always inspirational to take a look at the lovely projects other bloggers are hoping to accomplish during the month. Be sure to click on the link here to take a look!
