This Ohio Star quilt was in a basket of quilts in my basement that are waiting for binding. The basket was overflowing and this was the biggest quilt in there. I’m happy to say it is now finished. That was a lot of binding!
I looked through the blog archives and found it was quilted in August 2013 so it’s been languishing for some time. Sadly, it’s probably not even the oldest project in there! When I blogged about it back then I had drawn up a potential quilting design for the star blocks and that’s how it was quilted. Not great, but the layers are held together. Since acquiring my frame and longarm machine about 10 years ago, every single quilt has been a practice piece. Haha! I’d like to think I’m improving, but sometimes it’s hard to tell.
This is at least a queen size quilt so I plan to keep it for awhile to use on one of the beds during the winter. Nice to have it finished and clear a little room in the binding basket.

I think your shop did that as a block of the month or something. I have it. It’s been waiting to be quilted for a very long time! It has always been one of my favorites. I love the deep jewel tone colors of the fabrics. Since you have yours done….want to work on mine? LOL

Wow, what a pretty quilt! Such a classic block and it looks great in scappy fabrics. Congrats on getting it finished 🙂

Hey, this is neat! I like the quilting on it. It’s pretty, and it’s “usable” – meaning, sometimes we put so much fancy work on quilts that you really don’t feel so comfortable actually using it, like it should be reserved for show on the wall or something. There’s a lot to be said for simpler pretty quilting!
I used to despise putting bindings on. At some point, I realized it was the perfect opportunity for watching lots of TV that I normally can’t justify spending the time on. Ever since then, it’s a friend instead of an enemy. I’m hopeful that I’ll be able to get a longarm this year, though, and I’m going to have to remember to get a laundry basket for a storage locale, as I’m sure I’ll be too immersed in practicing on the 37 or so tops I have waiting for quilting attention to bind them as I go!
