When I was tidying up the sewing room after all the Christmas projects I came across a couple of quilts that I pieced last year using some fat quarter packs of Valentine’s Day fabric. I’m not a big fan of pink quilts and these are REALLY pink so I know why they were never finished. Also, the tops are pretty ho-hum and boring.
This one I’m calling Valentine Boxes.
After naming it I started thinking about the valentine boxes we made in elementary school. A few days before Valentine’s Day we would bring in shoe boxes and spend some time decorating them with construction paper, crepe paper and doily hearts. I remember how fun it was to bring our boxes home on Valentine’s Day and open all the cards.
So-o-o-o, I’m going to borrow that idea and make this a fun quilt! First I’ll press it and quilt it with an easy edge-to-edge design. Then I’ll some hearts and lace on top and add a little bling. Now I’m excited to start working on it again!

Adding embellishments to the sugary-pink flimsy will make it wonderful! (“Candy Boxes,” maybe?)

Sometimes a quilt needs to age a bit before it decides how it wants to be finished! I had forgotten about the boxes.

Don’t you love it when inspiration strikes and reinvigorates you? The boxes, while not bad, will benefit from a bit o’bling. Looking forward to seeing the finished product.

What a fun way to ‘resuscitate’ life into Valentines Boxes! I happen to adore pink so I’ll be all the more looking forward to your progress being posted! 🙂

Nothing wrong with letting a quilt age before it’s finished. If you think it is too pink maybe you could add a little applique. I think it looks great.

It will remind me of Conversation Hearts. Oooh, haven’t had those in a million years. May have to pick some up this year.
