Over the past few months One Monthly Goal has been great motivation for me. I have plenty of projects I could finish, but decided to make THIS my priority. It’s time to get this off my cutting table and into quilts.
That means cutting–lots and lots of cutting! This basket of scraps has been here for at least three months and has overflowed to take up about a quarter of the table.
Next month I’m going to a week-long retreat with friends I made at last year’s Bonnie Hunter Iowa retreat. That creates the perfect opportunity to cut some kits. I like to cut and package projects prior to retreat to make the most of my sewing time, plus it’s easier to stay organized in a small space. At most retreats, I’m somewhat distracted with chatter, shop hopping and general FOMO. Distracted cutting is not good–too many mistakes in cutting and counting. We will be in Duluth, MN, a great place for hiking, so that will reduce my sewing time. But who knows? It could rain (or snow!) all week and put a damper on outside adventures.
Regardless, it’s time to get these scraps cut. My August One Monthly Goal is to cut six scrap quilts from this basket of fabric. I went through some books and patterns and checked my ongoing, ever-increasing list of quilts I want to make and selected six projects.I know I will have to add some fabric for backgrounds and variety, but six quilts should put a nice dent in the pile.
I’ve organized the cutting for these projects, set up six trays to hold the pieces, plugged in the iron and put a new blade in my rotary cutter. Let’s the cutting commence!
