Make quilts. Use fabric. Have fun.

DWM: Hunters Star

Technically, this quilt is on the frame, not the design wall—and it’s not even my quilt.  My neighbor pieced it and wasn’t very happy with the way it turned out.  She knows that I donate a lot of quilts to charity so she gave it to me to quilt, then she’ll sew on the binding and we will give it away.  I’ve had it for a long time and didn’t really know how I was going to quilt it.  I ended up quilting swirls in the center and teardrops in the border.  It was a good decision not to do a pantograph because of the bulky seams where all the triangles meet.  I think the foot may have gotten hung up on some of the seams and the quilting lines would waver.  This way I can plan where the needle will hit these seams and the swirls will be smooth!

I really like the way it’s turning out and think she might have a hard time giving it away once she sees it quilted!

Hunters Star

A couple of people asked about the pattern for the jelly roll Road to Oklahoma quilt I posted on Friday.  I didn’t have a pattern, just used a traditional block that could be cut with 2-1/2″ strips.  To make it easy for others to make I wrote the pattern over the weekend and added it to the free pattern page.  You can find it here.  Now you don’t have to do the math!

Thanks for doing this, Rhonda. I really liked your quilt last week and did find several blogs/sites with this free pattern. Yours lays it out clearly. I have my fabrics all picked out. It’s a really pretty quilt without being too difficult. As usual, I love your work!

I’ve finished a quilt that the person decided she didn’t like anymore. Like that one, I think the quilt is lovely. Hopefully the person who gets it will love it.
I’ll look at the Road to Oklahoma now!

You are so kind to post the pattern for this. Your quilt is very pretty and the swirl pattern nicely done.
