Make quilts. Use fabric. Have fun.

DWM: Scrappy Courtyard Maze

A few weeks ago on Design Wall Monday I showed this version of a Courtyard Maze quilt I was working on. That one was made with a charm pack and matching jelly roll.  I received a comment that mentioned this would be a good pattern for stash busting.  Now why didn’t I think of that…I have drawers with 5” squares and 2-1/2” strips so I pulled some out and got busy.  So thanks for the suggestion, Susan. Here are my scrappy blocks.

Scrappy CM layout

This was really fun to make because one of my favorite parts of quilting is matching fabric.  It is fun to find two that work well together.  When I use pre-cuts, I miss that part of the process and end up with a quilt that is maybe a little bit too coordinated.

Also, as I mentioned before, it’s always fun taking that little trip down memory lane while digging through the scraps.  This week I need to focus on finishing some quilting and getting bindings machine stitched.  We will have many, many hours in the car in the upcoming four weeks and it would be nice to have some hand work to while away the miles.

Be sure to look at some other design wall projects using the links at Patchwork Times.

Wow, do I love it! You did a great job of matching squares and strips. I’m going to HAVE to put this on the list to do! You were fast, too.

That is wonderful. I might have a stash of squares and strips that I could use!

What a novel idea — using your scrap stash!! I’m all for it too. But don’t tempt me right now. This is how I get so many UFOs tops but never get them quilted. Now what was the name of this pattern again?. lol You are really a fast piecer.
