Make quilts. Use fabric. Have fun.

Catching Up

The Thanksgiving weekend about wore me out.  It really is a lot of fun having so many people here but it’s a ton of work.  It seems like all I’ve done for the past two weeks is cook and clean.  Other than a little bit of work on the Bonnie Hunter mystery I haven’t done any sewing in a long time and I’m starting to get crabby!

Today I planned to spend most of the day quilting but I HAD to do laundry. There was a mountain of it with sheets from every bed and sofa bed, tablecloths plus towels, towels and more towels.  We have more company coming this weekend so I have to get ready for another round.  By late afternoon I thought I was finished, but then found another large hamper of more sheets and towels!

On the sewing front, I started one of two commission quilts that need to be finished by Christmas.  Usually when someone asks for a quilt they just give me color suggestions and I select the fabric.  This client is very particular about fabric, though and vetoed almost every multi-colored print.  Pretty much every fabric she wanted was solid looking or tone-on-tone.  The quilt will be a simple Yellow Brick Road variation and I finished piecing the blocks today.  While arranging them I discovered that the one print fabric she approved was too much for the quilt.  It just popped out and was very distracting.  Can you tell which one it is??

So I replaced all of that brown-with-red-squares fabric with a more subtle brown.  It didn’t take very long and now I like the blocks better.  The top is sewn together and backing pieced.  Hopefully I’ll get it loaded on the frame tomorrow so I can start quilting.  Then on to the next one!
