Patchwork Sampler

Make quilts. Use fabric. Have fun.

Still Sewing and Sewing and Sewing

Even though there are several other quilts I should be working on, I’ve continued sewing on Celtic Solstice.  After putting in seven hours yesterday and another four today I’m FINALLY to the point where I’m seeing some progress.  This is the type of project that could easily become a UFO and languish in a Rubbermaid bin for years if I don’t persevere.  All of the 54-40 or Fight blocks are pieced and all the units for the alternate blocks are complete.  Now I just need another 37 of them and I can sew the top together!!  The next challenge will be the pieced border, but all the pieces are cut and I have a sewing day next Tuesday so maybe I can make quite a bit of progress then.  All I have to say is thank goodness for Turner Classic Movies and their 31 Days of Oscar this month.  There are now hours and hours of great old movies on the DVR and I re-watch them while I sew the thousands of pieces that will make up this quilt!

Celtic Solstice blocks

I pieced the alternate blocks a little differently than how Bonnie Hunter designed the pattern.  The chevron section in her block is turned 180 degrees so it frames the pinwheels.  I’m such a sucker for star blocks so I flipped those units to make stars.  This is a great pattern and I think I’ll really like the quilt when it’s finished.

All those bazillions of pieces is why I don’t do Bonnie’s mysteries. If I had gotten this far on this one, I would quilt it, bind it and call it a wall hanging. =) I like your colors and the flipping of the one piece.

I like your twist on the block. It will be fun to see this finished. I made a very similar quilt to Bonnie’s design a few years ago and I couldn’t stop working on it. It is so fun to see it all come together.

There are a lot of pieces in those CS blocks. I finally had to give in and take mine down so I could work on other projects. Hope you finish yours up soon.

I like Bonnie’s mysteries because of the complexity of the blocks. Though there are many pieces, the units themselves aren’t difficult. Your repositioning and colorway are very effective!

Your Celtic Solstice looks great. I really like your colors. Keep at it and soon you will be finished. I should talk, mine has been derailed waiting to do the pieced border. When there is not a deadline, it seems they get put on the back burner.
